About The Position

This position is for an Auxiliary Operator responsible for performing chemistry analysis on boilers, cooling towers, and secondary plants. The role involves operating and troubleshooting the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system and air systems, coordinating with resources to resolve issues, and supporting boiler plant start-up and shut-down activities. The operator will also assist with vendor and contractor daily routines, conduct system walkdowns including local controls and load control from DCS, and report issues to appropriate resources. Key duties include monitoring operating conditions by reading meters and gauges or automatic recording devices, visually inspecting equipment for malfunctions or maintenance needs, and performing equipment maintenance such as tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components using hand and power tools. Additionally, the operator will be responsible for entering work orders into the Maximo system.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 2-5 years related experience equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a 3rd Class Stationary Engineer license for the State of Ohio or ability to obtain license within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Powerpoint

Responsibilities

  • Supports vendor and contractor daily routines (i.e ash hauling)
  • Performs system walkdowns including local controls as well as load control from DCS; reporting issues to appropriate resources
  • Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
  • Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components, using hand tools and power tools
  • Enters work orders into Maximo system
  • Other duties as assigned
