Autonomy Positioning Engineer

Caterpillar Inc.•Irving, TX
•$97,530 - $158,480•Onsite

About The Position

Caterpillar’s Cat Technology organization develops and scales technology solutions, product development tools and processes, and enterprise-wide initiatives in innovation, research and development, manufacturing automation, and advanced materials. The Autonomy Positioning Engineer focuses on software development for positioning and localization, collaborating with team members to prototype and productionize algorithms that help autonomous and semiautonomous systems localize robustly. This includes estimating absolute position and altitude as well as relative position to terrain features and static or mobile equipment, using perception-based, inertial, and GNSS inputs. The role involves solving real-world problems by selecting appropriate approaches, building prototypes, and bringing solutions into production. The engineer participates in design, documentation, coding, product quality, and validation, and is expected to write and test high-quality production software. The position is based onsite at Caterpillar’s Irving, Texas office five days per week and may require up to 10% travel.
