About The Position

This position is responsible for creating a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with pupils, motivate them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a strong foundation, in accordance with each pupil’s ability. Additionally, the role involves establishing good relationships with parents and other staff members. The application process has been updated to require three professional reference letters, all dated within the last 12 months. Current district employees must include a letter from their current supervisor.

Requirements

Bachelor Degree including 32 credit hours of vocational-technical training related to the occupational area OR Associates Degree plus two (2) years verified work experience related to the occupational area; OR Certificate plus three (3) years verified work experience related to the occupational area; OR High School Diploma/GED plus five (5) years verified work experience related to the occupational area.
Valid New Mexico Vocational Technical Teaching license
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasional push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
Maintains emotional control under stress.

Responsibilities

Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
Acts as a positive role model for students.
Meets and instructs assigned classes.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the sources provided by the district.
Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon requests of immediate supervisor.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior established by administrators and teachers.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives distributed by the district.
Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material and facilities.
Evaluates student progress on regular basis.
Maintains records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with each student and his/her parents concerning his/her academic and behavioral progress, and makes provisions to be available when required or requested in advance under reasonable conditions.
Utilizes teaching techniques and classroom strategies to accommodate the various learning styles and modes of his/her students.
Tests students, records grades, and sends progress reports to parents, effectively and on time.
Works with principal, counselor, and supervisory staff in identifying and solving problems related to his/her students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervises students, instructional assistants, volunteers and student teachers when assigned.
