About The Position

Harry S Truman College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and student-centered Automotive Technology professional to join our faculty as a Full-Time, Tenure-Track Instructor. The successful candidate will bring strong industry expertise, current knowledge of automotive systems and diagnostic technologies, and a commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the rapidly evolving automotive industry. The ideal candidate is an engaging educator and skilled automotive professional who can connect classroom instruction with hands-on learning, industry standards, emerging technologies, and workforce expectations. Requirements

  • Minimum associate’s degree in Automotive Technology.
  • Current certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), plus all appropriate certifications.
  • Three to four years of work experience in the field.
  • Strong knowledge of intricate automotive systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work skillfully with highly technical diagnostic equipment, including: Scan Tools, Lab Scopes, DVOMs, Air Conditioning Recycling Equipment, Vibration Diagnostic Equipment, etc.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the use of the internet, Microsoft Office products, email.
  • Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology is strongly preferred.
  • L1 ASE certification preferred.
  • Teaching experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students.
  • Revise and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the automotive industry and ASE certification.
  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
  • Develop and deliver customized training for various clients as needed and maintain involvement with business/industry/community through advisory committees, marketing and recruitment efforts, and professional associations and organizations.
  • Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.
  • Post syllabi on Learning Management System (BrightSpace) and enter final grades online in PeopleSoft.
