About The Position

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position responsible for instructing the College’s Automotive technologies educational and training programs. These programs include four comprehensive AAS degree programs (GM ASEP, MCAP, Subaru-U, Global Automotive Technology Program), Specialized Diplomas, and customized contracted training. The role involves instructing key areas of Automotive training, developing and evolving the programs, maintaining department inventory, meeting faculty deadlines, ensuring the condition of classrooms, labs, and shop facilities, and assisting in promoting NCC's automotive programs through recruitment efforts at local career technical schools and high schools.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an associate degree in the subject area from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of automotive service work.
  • Be knowledgeable in all phases of the instructional area of immediate concern, including the use of instructional technology.
  • Possess the ability to function effectively as a member of the faculty team.
  • Have the ability to organize and work effectively with both large and small classes.
  • Work effectively with students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Have the ability to adapt to differences and changes in the program, colleagues, students, community characteristics.
  • Maintain an advisory relationship with students.
  • Possess skills in interpersonal relationships.
  • ASE Master Certification (A1–A8 + L1)
  • Current PA Safety Inspection Certificate
  • Current PA Emissions Certificate
  • Experience in working with General Motors Automobiles.
  • Experience in the following General Motors topics: Automotive Fundamentals, Engines, Brakes, Suspension & Alignment, Electrical Systems, Fuel & Emission Systems, Advanced Engine Performance, AC & Heating Systems, Advanced Electronic Systems, Mechanical Drive Train Systems, Automatic Transmission Systems, Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, Shop Management Practices, and Automotive Service Advising.
  • Experience with the proper use of automotive-specific tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining the NCC General Motors ASEP program.
  • Experience in the various courses required to complete the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in the subject area is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct the College’s Automotive technologies educational and training programs, including four comprehensive AAS degree programs based on the (1) General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP), (2) Mopar Career Automotive Program (MCAP), (3) Subaru University (Subaru-U), (4) Global Automotive Technology Program, Specialized Diplomas, as well as customized contracted training.
  • Instruct key areas of Automotive training as required.
  • Develop and evolve the Automotive technologies educational & training programs.
  • Maintain and update the department inventory.
  • Meet all faculty deadlines.
  • Maintain the condition of all program classrooms, labs, and shop facilities.
  • Assist in promoting NCCs automotive programs by recruiting students at the local career technical schools and high schools.
  • Give instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the College Catalog.
  • Maintain curriculum currently and participating in course level and program level academic assessment.
  • Acquaint all students with course requirements during the first week of classes and provide each student with periodic evaluations of his/her progress.
  • Participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibilities.
  • Select textbooks and other instructional materials in compliance with developed college policies.
  • Comply with all provisions as noted in the Contract with Local #3579 of the American Federation of Teachers.
  • Recommend the purchase of library books and other instructional resources necessary for the effective implementation of the instructional program.
  • Assist in the recruitment of full-time faculty members as provided in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Approve all student withdrawals from class.
  • Carry on an effective student advising program and implement the referral program to ensure that students who require counseling are directed to the appropriate staff member.
  • Participate in all regularly scheduled meetings of the department/division and professional staff.
  • Prepare preliminary budget materials for submission to the appropriate dean.
  • Prepare a list annually of special assignments that reflect institutional and individual goals and ambitions appropriate to the position and the administrative team.
