About The Position

The Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing the dealership’s parts department, ensuring efficient inventory management, excellent customer service, and strong department profitability. This position leads the parts team, coordinates with the Service and Sales departments, manages vendor relationships, and maintains accurate inventory levels while minimizing unnecessary costs.

Requirements

  • Previous automotive dealership parts experience required; parts management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive parts, catalogs, and parts identification.
  • Experience with dealership management systems (DMS) and electronic parts catalogs.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage inventory, purchasing, and departmental expenses.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn dealership-specific software.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of automotive dealership parts experience.
  • Previous Parts Manager or Assistant Parts Manager experience.
  • Experience with OEM manufacturer parts programs and warranty procedures.
  • Experience managing wholesale and retail parts operations.
  • Proven ability to train and develop employees.
  • Strong understanding of parts department financial statements and profitability metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the dealership Parts Department.
  • Hire, train, coach, schedule, and supervise parts department employees.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels based on dealership needs, sales history, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Monitor parts purchasing, receiving, stocking, pricing, returns, and special orders.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular physical inventory counts.
  • Review and manage obsolete, damaged, and excess inventory.
  • Work closely with the Service Department to ensure technicians receive the correct parts in a timely manner.
  • Support the Sales Department with wholesale and retail parts opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors, and other parts suppliers.
  • Ensure warranty, return, and core procedures are followed accurately.
  • Monitor department sales, gross profit, expenses, and other key performance indicators.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate parts pricing and margins.
  • Ensure all parts transactions are accurately documented and processed through the dealership’s DMS.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts department.
  • Ensure compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, OSHA regulations, and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Resolve customer and internal department concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in dealership meetings and collaborate with other department managers to achieve overall dealership goals.
