The Assistant Controller provides sales and expense analyses for all departments, fairly represent the financial condition of the dealership, develop controls necessary for the proper conduct of the business, and maintain accurate records. Requirements

  • Prior experience as an Office Manager, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader is required.
  • Working knowledge of accounting, financial statements, and the month‑end close process.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and support the titling pod.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with management across multiple departments and dealerships.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical financial information into an easily understandable manner.
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings including background check, MVR, drug test, credit check, and must possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive dealership experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a financial field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides sales and expense analyses for all departments.
  • Fairly represents the financial condition of the dealership.
  • Develops controls necessary for the proper conduct of the business.
  • Maintains accurate records.
  • Supports the preparation of monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and schedules for multi‑franchise and non‑franchise stores.
  • Manages the day-to-day accounting operations of the store to ensure that all transactions are recorded in compliance with all AutoNation accounting processes and policies.
  • Leads, coaches, and supports titling staff to ensure consistent performance, accuracy, and development.
  • Assists with closing the books accurately each month.
  • Prepares and submits required statements and reports.
  • Protects store assets by ensuring strong internal controls, compliance, and proper documentation.
  • Assists department managers in interpreting financial reports and developing action plans to improve operational performance.
  • Responds promptly to requests for information, support, and cross‑departmental collaboration.
  • Works with store staff to ensure that corporate initiatives are attained.
