About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Automotive Mechanic for their Fleet Maintenance Group in Norfolk, VA. This role is part of an Automotive Mechanic Development Program and offers opportunities for advancement. The position involves diagnosing, repairing, and performing maintenance on a variety of fleet equipment, including on- and off-road vehicles with diesel and gasoline engines, and automatic and manual transmissions. The role requires working with customers from various departments, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and leveraging technology for analysis and tracking. Overtime is expected to meet customer needs during peak periods. The majority of the work is in a shop environment, but outdoor response may be necessary. The role is physically demanding and requires adherence to safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a professional Automotive Mechanic (a partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.)
  • General knowledge of gas combustion engines, diesel engines, and air conditioning
  • Must possess basic hand tools or be willing to purchase tools needed to perform the job.
  • Pass drug screening and background checks.
  • Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies due to weight limits on equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtain a CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL prior to 6 months of employment.
  • Be eligible to obtain a state inspection license after an appropriate amount of time in training program.
  • Professional combustion engine mechanic or graduate of a recognized Automotive Mechanic Training school
  • Experience in electrical systems diagnostics and repair
  • Experience in Air Conditioning diagnostics, repair, and A/C certification
  • Experience in Engine ignition diagnostics and repair
  • Experience in hydraulics
  • Heavy Truck certification
  • State Inspection license
  • Commercial Driver's license
  • Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) graduates
  • Military veterans
  • Candidates with an associate degree in a related field or major

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance on various types of fleet equipment, including on- and off-road equipment with diesel and gasoline engines, and automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Work with customers in Construction, Operations, Substation, Transmission, and other departments to understand their needs and issues.
  • Perform various Preventative Maintenance tasks, including oil and other fluid changes, and tire changes.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair light duty vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic equipment, drivetrains, and air brakes.
  • Ensure safety rules and regulations are observed in the garage or other worksite.
  • Leverage technology to analyze issues, track customer needs, time spent on maintenance/repair tasks, and parts used.
  • Prepare for further advancement in the Automotive Mechanic Development Program.
