About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Automotive Mechanic for the Norfolk, VA shop. This position is part of the Fleet Maintenance Group and offers placement in various steps (4-11) based on experience, with a starting hourly range of $33.03 - $42.70, and potential to reach $49.96 after training. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of on- and off-road equipment, including diesel and gasoline engines, and automatic/manual transmissions. The successful candidate will develop skills for advancement within the Automotive Mechanic Development Program. This includes preparing for further advancement in the Fleet Maintenance department. Specific functions involve collaborating with internal customers, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing various vehicle systems, ensuring safety compliance, and utilizing technology for analysis and tracking. Overtime is expected during peak periods, offering additional earning potential. The work is primarily in a shop environment but may require outdoor response and is physically demanding. A weight restriction of 290lbs applies due to equipment usage.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of 2-year experience as a professional Automotive Mechanic (A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.)
  • General knowledge of gas combustion engines, diesel engines, and air conditioning
  • Must possess basic hand tools or be willing to purchase tools needed to perform the job.
  • Pass drug screening and background checks
  • Be eligible to obtain a state inspection license after an appropriate amount of time in training program.
  • Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies due to weight limits on equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional combustion engine mechanic or graduate of a recognized Automotive Mechanic Training school
  • Experience in electrical systems diagnostics and repair

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance on various types of on- and off-road equipment with diesel and gasoline engines, automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Prepare for advancement in the Automotive Mechanic Development Program.
  • Work with customers in Construction, Operations, Substation, Transmission, and other departments to understand their needs and issues.
  • Perform various Preventative Maintenance tasks, including oil and other fluid changes, and tire changes.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair light duty vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic equipment, drivetrains, and air brakes.
  • Ensure safety rules and regulations are observed in the garage or other worksite.
  • Leverage technology to analyze issues, track customer needs, time spent on maintenance/repair tasks, and parts used.
