About The Position

The General Sales Manager's primary role is to assist the General Manager with overseeing and driving both people and financial success in variable operations. This role requires demonstrated leadership abilities and a hands-on approach, being actively involved in all aspects of the sales process. The GSM will work with the general manager, sales team, and finance management team to meet monthly new, used, and F&I objectives, and assist with inventory management for both new and used car departments. A strong track record of developing and mentoring sales consultants, F&I managers, and other sales managers is essential, along with a history of superior results in a high-volume dealership and excellent customer service (CSI). The GSM is expected to lead from the front lines, manage and oversee activities of variable operations, and be a detailed, process-driven leader capable of holding staff accountable for results. This role involves ensuring volume commitments to the manufacturer are met, partnering with the General Manager to develop and review goals, and maintaining good relationships with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel. The GSM will communicate management policies, hire, train, supervise, and monitor performance of sales associates and managers, and motivate, reward, and train employees. Strong asset management skills are required, including ensuring the CIT list is resolved before deadlines. The GSM must lead by example and ensure company core values are upheld in behavior at all times. Other duties may be determined by management.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Hands on active manager that is involved in all aspects of the sales process.
  • Must possess a strong track record of superior results in a high volume dealership.
  • Excellent customer service (CSI) history.
  • Must be willing to and able to consistently work the sales desk and customers turn overs.
  • Must be a highly detailed process driven leader and be able to hold the staff accountable for results.
  • Strong asset management skills required.
  • 5-8 years of automotive experience preferred.
  • Strong used car management skills preferred.
  • Proven track record and experience as a sales consultant, F&I Manager and Used or New Sales Manager required.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening (background and drug test).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the General Manager and meet with managers individually to develop monthly and annual goals and objectives, and to review actual performance.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel.
  • Communicate management policies and procedures to all Team Members’ attitudes and build morale.
  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor performance of sales associates and managers (new, used and finance).
  • Motivate, reward, and train employees.
  • Responsible for making sure CIT list is resolved before deadlines.
  • Lead by example and ensure that the core values of the company are encompassed in behavior at all times.
