The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists. NORTH FLORIDA EVALUATION AND TREATMENT FACILITY IS A TOBACCO FREE FACILITY.

Requirements

Knowledge of the principles and basic techniques of automotive repair work.
Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the repair of automotive equipment.
Skill in the use of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
Ability to perform a variety of automotive equipment repairs.
Ability to operate motor vehicles.
Ability to inspect and tune up equipment.
Ability to assist in body and fender repair work.
Ability to replace, repair and install accessories, such as radios, heaters, windshield wipers, etc.
Ability to provide instruction to the lower level mechanics.
Ability to perform oxygen acetylene and electric welding.
Ability to repair and replace fuel injection systems.
Ability to review ignition systems, lights and instrument panels.
Two years of experience in automotive repair work.
Vocational/technical training in automotive repair can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

Maintain and perform all mechanical and electrical repair work on all of the center's fleet vehicles, lawn mowing and landscaping equipment.
Have a working knowledge of the center's Mission statement, its Vision, Values, organizational structure and NFETC operational procedures relevant to assigned duties and responsibilities.
Comply with NFETC administrative directives.
Perform preventive maintenance on all fleet vehicles (approx. 12) weekly, monthly and quarterly; then document and record each vehicle's mileage, overall condition and fuel used on the NFETC Vehicle Monthly Log and e-mail it to the Property Administrator at NEFSH.
Independently perform repairs, service and maintenance work on gas motor vehicles, Diesel tractors, E-Z Go Carts, portable generators, Hi-Lift, portable arc welder and lawn equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, hedgers and chain saws.
On all vehicles perform repairs or replace items like belts, spark plugs, check all fluid levels, rotate tires and install tires with a torque wrench to manufacturer specifications, all lights and mirrors, Oil and oil filter, seats, flooring, gas filter, air filter, radios, heaters and wipers.
Maintain fuel in all vehicles by checking each one every Friday. Ensure the fuel pump is working and measure fuel level in the tank every month and document on a chart to keep and maintain enough fuel on hand at all times.
Perform checks to detect and determine problems that are manufacturer-related maintenance like brakes, drums, rotors, cables, calipers, any HVAC problems, transmission problems, engine problems, universal joints bad, drive shaft problems, radiator coolant problems and tire changes off rims.
Provide 24-hour service to all NFETC vehicles.
Respond to emergencies on an as needed basis.
Keep all tools organized and clean for all maintenance personnel to use whenever on vacation. All tools needed will be provided and no personal tools are to be brought in.
Organize garage to keep it clean and inventory all parts to keep a small amount on hand for repairs.
Work with suppliers to correctly identify the right part to order or have on back-order and shipped, if necessary.
Perform other duties to help all other maintenance personnel when required like moving furniture, moving appliances and escorting contractors when everyone else is busy.
Perform oxygen-acetylene cutting, mig or arc welding when needed.
