About The Position

We're hiring an Automotive Equipment Lube Technician to help keep our City vehicles in top shape. This position supports mechanics by performing varying degrees of preventative maintenance and shop tasks. The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization. This role provides basic preventative maintenance and servicing to City Vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Six (6) months of basic automotive or mechanical experience
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate effectively (writing & verbal)
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations
Valid Driver’s License
Must obtain a Commercial Class B (CDL) with air brake endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate within one year of hire
AC EPA Section 609 Certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

Performs routine fluid and filter changes on assigned equipment
Checks and tops off equipment fluids (coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, etc.)
Inspects and inflates tires to proper pressure; may rotate tires as needed
Greases fittings and lubricates moving parts
May assist Mechanics with basic mechanical repairs and shop tasks under supervision
Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows shop safety practices
Completes through vehicle service checklist and basic work order documentation on assigned unit
Attends work regularly at the designated time and location
Adheres to all City policies, procedures, and safety protocols
Participates in training opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
Performs related duties as assigned
