About The Position

The responsibilities of this classification include performing a wide variety of skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work on gasoline, electric, hybrid and diesel-powered buses and other motorized and auxiliary equipment. Work involves maintenance, repair of all engine, transmission, suspension, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and related components and assemblies. Work requires incumbents to learn and transfer new and expanded mechanical and electronic knowledge and skills as diagnostic systems and mechanical/electronic components are modified and updated. Work also requires compliance with all applicable, federally mandated safety-sensitive requirements. Work is performed under the general supervision of Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work or successful completion of appropriate practical test for internal maintenance employees.
  • Possess a valid TN Class “B” Driver’s License with a “P” Endorsement and a permit for Class A combination vehicle.
  • Acquire valid Refrigeration License for all refrigerants and refrigerant systems used on the fleet.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing provisions for safety sensitive positions as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Parts 40 and 655. The person selected for this position may be required to be tested prior to being awarded the job.
  • Ability to pass a DOT medical physical test and keep this current while in the position.
  • Willingness and availability to work varying shifts that have been bid on weekdays, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Additional minimum qualifications may be established for individual positions based on business needs and are specified in position announcements as appropriate.
  • Additional licenses, certifications, and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required. Company will provide training as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in gasoline, electric, hybrid and diesel-powered buses, trucks, cars and other heavy motorized mechanical equipment; operate and maintain electronic diagnostic and related equipment.
  • Remove, replace, diagnose, dismantle and repair all types of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, automatic transmissions, differentials, hydraulic, cooling, hybrid, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical and mechanical units and accessories of coaches using electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Replace and adjust brakes, repair pumps, starters, injectors, lights, steering gears, generators and air conditioning systems.
  • Operate overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists, jacks, drill presses, as appropriately certified.
  • Perform field repair work and emergency road repairs.
  • Maintain records of orders, completed repairs, time worked, and materials used; enter and extract data in automated vehicle maintenance system.
  • Acquire the skills to perform independently basic diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and mechanical system equipment.
  • Assist other employees in section work.
  • Refer unusual situations to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
