About The Position

The Controller provides sales and expense analyses for all departments, fairly represents the dealership’s financial condition, develops controls necessary for proper business conduct, and maintains accurate records. The position supports the dealership’s accounting function and financial reporting, working closely with management and other departments to promote harmonious, productive operations and business success. The Controller interacts with accounting associates, sales associates, service managers, support staff, and customers, and helps develop and motivate accounting associates to meet or exceed performance metrics. The role reports to the General Manager and the Corporate CFO.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous automotive comptroller experience required.
• Working knowledge of dealership financial statements.
• Ability to explain technical financial information in an understandable manner.
• Excellent communication skills.

• Three years of experience in a dealership position.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete financial statements and submit them to the manufacturer and management within established timeframes.
• Interpret and analyze financial statements.
• Keep the General Manager informed about business trends and cash needs.
• Develop and maintain an effective cash management system.
• Manage the store’s day-to-day accounting operations and ensure transactions comply with dealership accounting processes and policies.
• Close the books accurately each month.
• Prepare and submit required statements and reports.
• Manage and safeguard the store’s assets and ensure internal controls are in place.
• Assist department managers with reading and interpreting financial reports and creating action plans to improve their operations.
• Respond to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner.
• Work with the General Manager to improve revenue or reduce expenses to meet or exceed budget and grow the business.
• Work with staff to ensure corporate initiatives are attained.
• Maintain excellent business relations with internal and external customers.
• Help develop and motivate accounting associates to ensure performance metrics are met or exceeded.
