About The Position

The Automotive Apprentice Technician position provides an opportunity to begin or advance a career in automotive service while working as a full-time, paid employee. Apprentices receive hands-on training and guidance from experienced coaching technicians, shop leadership, and managers. The program is designed to develop the technical knowledge, safety awareness, diagnostic ability, and practical skills needed to progress within Nielsen Nissan’s service department. The ideal candidate is curious about how vehicles operate, enjoys working with their hands, approaches problems thoughtfully, and is eager to learn current and emerging automotive technology.

Requirements

  • Genuine interest in automotive maintenance, repair, and diagnostic technology.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning how vehicle systems operate.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions carefully.
  • Ability to accept coaching, feedback, and progressively more advanced assignments.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to report to work as scheduled.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn electronic diagnostic, repair-order, and manufacturer training systems.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with technicians, managers, service advisors, and other dealership employees.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable under Company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to satisfy the minimum age and driver-eligibility requirements applicable to the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous automotive coursework, vocational training, or hands-on repair experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in the Company’s structured apprentice development and coaching program.
  • Work under the direction of experienced technicians, the Shop Foreman, and service management.
  • Assist with vehicle inspections, routine maintenance, and entry-level repairs according to training level and authorization.
  • Learn to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle concerns.
  • Develop proficiency with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and manufacturer service information.
  • Learn about current and emerging vehicle technologies, including engine performance, fuel-economy systems, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics.
  • Follow repair instructions, manufacturer procedures, and established quality-control standards.
  • Accurately document inspections, maintenance, repairs, findings, and work performed on repair orders.
  • Complete assigned manufacturer, dealership, safety, and technical training.
  • Ask questions and communicate promptly when additional guidance or authorization is needed.
  • Handle customer vehicles carefully and protect vehicle interiors and personal property.
  • Move or road-test customer and Company vehicles only when trained, authorized, properly licensed, and eligible under Company insurance requirements.
  • Comply with the Company’s distracted-driving requirements whenever operating or moving a vehicle.
  • Follow all shop safety rules and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Wear appropriate protective footwear and other required safety equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and the assigned work area in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, vehicle damage, accidents, and work-related injuries.
  • Safeguard customer, vehicle, and Company information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on training level and business needs.
