About The Position

Contender Automotive Service is seeking a dependable, skilled, and motivated Automotive Accessory Installer / Emergency Vehicle Upfitter. The role installs aftermarket accessories on passenger, commercial, and emergency vehicles, including mechanical equipment and 12-volt electrical systems. The successful candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, attention to detail, and professional installations, and can work independently as well as with a team.

The position includes installing and testing automotive accessories and emergency vehicle equipment according to manufacturer instructions and applicable agency specifications. It also involves safe tool use, organized wiring and mounting, keeping the work area clean, communicating job progress, and completing work efficiently while maintaining quality and customer service standards.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and follow technical installation instructions.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and committed to quality workmanship.
• Ability to lift equipment and perform physical shop duties.

Nice To Haves

• Previous automotive accessory installation or emergency vehicle upfitting experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of automotive 12-volt electrical systems and wiring is a plus.
• A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install aftermarket accessories on cars, trucks, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, including running boards, step bars, tonneau and bed covers, floor liners, lighting, trailer hitches, lift kits, and leveling kits.
• Install other aftermarket equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
• Inspect completed installations for proper fit, function, and quality.
• Install emergency lighting systems, including light bars, grille lights, interior lights, and warning lights.
• Install sirens, speakers, control panels, and emergency vehicle electronic equipment.
• Install police vehicle consoles, push bumpers, prisoner partitions, gun racks, equipment mounts, and other law enforcement accessories.
• Perform 12-volt wiring, electrical connections, circuit protection, and troubleshooting.
• Install and configure vehicle equipment according to manufacturer instructions and applicable agency specifications.
• Maintain organized wiring, secure mounting, and a clean, professional finished installation.
• Test installed equipment to verify proper operation and safe functionality.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and automotive shop equipment safely.
• Follow installation procedures and workplace safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Communicate with management and team members about job progress and installation requirements.
• Complete work efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and customer service.
