About The Position

Hoffer Plastics is hiring for an Automation Technician. This role is responsible for programming, repairing, and maintaining all automated machinery and auxiliary equipment. The technician will play a key role in producing plastic components used in various industries, including transportation, food packaging, and healthcare. The position offers a starting pay of $32.00 - $42.00 per hour, based on experience, for the 1st shift (7:00 am - 4:00 pm). Requirements

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree in a related field.
  • 5 years of PLC programming experience with systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.
  • Mechanical comprehension.
  • Strong understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and diagrams.
  • Strong general computer skills.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to constantly during the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty-five pounds (55).
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, balancing, kneeling, and crouching are involved in the regular execution of duties.
  • Ability to push and pull items.
  • Ability to ascend/descend, work atop and traverse molding machines, assembly equipment, ladders, and aerial lift equipment.
  • Ability to work occasionally in small cramped spaces.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE including fire retardant apparel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting and improving Electrical Control, Vision System, PLC Systems, Robotics, and continuous motion systems.
  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks and/or ProE).

Responsibilities

  • Programs, repairs, and maintains all automated machinery and auxiliary equipment.
  • Programs, repairs, and maintains all automated devices used for runner removal, part handling, separation, or packing.
  • Programs, repairs, and maintains all machinery located at the press or in the Assembly department used in secondary operations.
  • Diagnoses trouble, disassembles equipment, and determines the extent of necessary repairs.
  • Performs repair part fabrication, and replaces defective components.
  • Performs necessary welding and sheet metal operations involved in repairing equipment.
  • Operates lathe, vertical mill, drill press, and grinders as required.
  • Occasionally directs an assigned helper.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Observes safety rules and wears prescribed protective clothing or items.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere and communicates in a manner that fosters good relationships with colleagues and management.
  • Continues to grow job-specific knowledge and uses tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
