About The Position

An Automation Technician in a JFE manufacturing facility is responsible for setting up and maintaining manufacturing assets used in the core manufacturing process, ensuring that components are produced according to design specifications and quality standards. This role involves coordinating tooling changes, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring that safety and efficiency are prioritized in the manufacturing process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment, preferably in transformer manufacturing or metalworking.
  • Knowledge of die setting techniques, stamping press operations, and tooling maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to precisely follow technical drawings, blueprints, and part specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve machine or die-related issues promptly.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (word, excel, teams) and knowledge of CMMS.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with team members and report any issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional technical training in related fields is preferred.
  • Experience operating Georg software is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Set up machines per set-up parameters or program parameters and install requisite tooling according to production schedules.
  • Perform changeovers, adjustments, and installations for each production run.
  • Ensure proper alignment of tooling to the machine and that they are securely mounted to avoid operational and safety hazards.
  • Assist machine operators in adjusting machine settings to meet product specifications.
  • Test new programs and support trial runs to ensure that the machine or program function properly and parts meet quality standards.
  • Manage tooling wear and tear, escalate and request necessary repairs as required.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems related to performance or machine malfunction.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and part replacements.
  • Report any mechanical or electrical issues to maintenance personnel for timely repairs.
  • Inspect and verify components during initial production runs and throughout the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure machine performance and part quality meet required tolerances and specifications.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing quality issues such as defects or variations in stamped parts.
  • Maintain a clean and organized tooling area, ensuring that tooling is stored and maintained properly to extend their lifespan.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance scheduling for knives, punches, and dies to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to company policies, OSHA regulations, and other relevant safety standards.
  • Ensure that the press area is free from hazards and that all safety guards are in place during die setup and operation.
  • Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and operators to ensure efficient die changeovers and continuous production flow.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to resolve production issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Document production changes, maintenance activities, and quality control results.
  • Maintain accurate records of setups, maintenance activities, and production performance.
  • Report any machine malfunctions, tooling wear, or part defects to the appropriate personnel.
