About The Position

The Automation Maintenance Technician II independently performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated material handling equipment, conveyor systems, sortation equipment, electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and associated facility support systems. This position serves as an experienced maintenance technician responsible for troubleshooting equipment failures, minimizing downtime, supporting operational performance, and improving equipment reliability. The Technician II provides technical guidance to less experienced technicians and supports equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or material handling environments.
  • Experience with automated conveyor and sortation systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with 480V three-phase electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Experience with VFDs, sensors, relays, motor controls, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree, certificate, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with Honeywell Intelligrated, Dematic, Vanderlande, or similar automated material handling systems.
  • Allen-Bradley PLC experience.
  • Basic industrial networking knowledge.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or related certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and conveyor system failures.
  • Diagnose issues involving motors, gearboxes, sensors, photo-eyes, scanners, VFDs, motor controls, relays, and associated automated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V, including motor control circuits, contactors, relays, transformers, and control panels.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, ladder logic, and equipment manuals.
  • Troubleshoot Honeywell, Allen-Bradley, or similar PLC-controlled systems.
  • Analyze equipment alarms and fault codes to restore equipment to operational status.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment performance and reliability.
  • Utilize standard diagnostic and testing equipment including multimeters and electrical testing devices.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of facility support equipment as assigned.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of recurring equipment failures.
  • Recommend maintenance and equipment improvements that increase system reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and modification projects.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation within the CMMS system.
  • Maintain parts inventory and spare parts documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced Technicians.
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Facilities, Engineering, and Safety teams as needed.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions and assist with corrective actions.
