About The Position

Under the direction and reporting to the production support supervisor, an Automation Support Lead has the responsibility of directing all operations of the process and its personnel. This position requires knowledge of company products, methods, machines, machine set-up, materials, quality standards, safety, and company policies. The role involves performing necessary preparations for daily operations based on orders and production schedules, verifying packaging materials and supplies, keeping equipment operating by running initial tests, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs. The lead ensures machines and equipment are set-up, mechanically sound, and ready for operations, conducts basic repairs, equipment and process adjustments, and process checks for effective set-up and changeovers. They are responsible for ensuring personnel are trained in processes, machinery, safety guidelines, policies, and procedures, and support continuous improvement efforts. The lead checks for adequate materials and supplies, communicates with production and department personnel (especially during shift exchange), assigns work, and communicates instructions respectfully and empathetically. They ensure the quality and quantity of output, maintain an effective flow of work, maintain a safe work environment, promote safe work habits, and comply with Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines established by Sargento Foods Inc. and regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, WDA, OSHA). The role also involves maintaining production and record systems, submitting reports, knowledge of SAP, SAVANNA, and MES, performing material handling and scanning, and adhering to the Sargento Code of Business and Personal Ethics. Regular and reliable attendance and the ability to perform essential job functions are required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Forklift certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and trains employees on continuous improvement efforts.
  • Checks to see that adequate materials and supplies are available to meet production needs and notifies appropriate personnel concerning shortages.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.

  • Coordinating and assuring completion of work and recommending evaluation of performance of team members.
  • Providing direction or advice on work processes, content, issues, and problems.
