About The Position

Assists with the technical work in the administration, maintenance, and operation of Automation/SCADA, distributed control, telemetry input, and computer systems for field operations. This role requires a strong working knowledge of Industrial Automation/SCADA architecture design, including control, measurement, and safety systems for oil and gas production facilities. The specialist will work with the field Instrumentation and Electrical Team, assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial controls-related equipment. Key responsibilities include designing and managing control system and SCADA related projects, staying updated on new Automation/SCADA developments and technologies (including PCN cybersecurity and communications), and programming/troubleshooting PLC-based control systems. The role also involves designing, programming, and troubleshooting HMI/DCS applications, setting up and maintaining process control networks, reading and understanding electrical drawings and P&IDs, and documenting Automation/SCADA systems. Additionally, the specialist will mentor junior personnel, coordinate standards and documentation, and enforce adherence to corporate Automation/SCADA standards. The position also requires adherence to company values, vision, and mission, and maintaining an established work schedule.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 12 hours per day, 14/14 day rotational assignment on the North Slope of Alaska.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the company.
  • Strong ability in diagnosing and solving SCADA related problems while maintaining patience, professionalism, and courtesy.
  • Understanding of Automation/SCADA system setup and maintenance regarding administration, programming, database administration, telemetry, and RTU input management understanding of the technology related to SCADA design and maintenance of a SCADA system.
  • Understanding of Industry standard alarming and governance
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Solid understanding of desktop computers, networking, printers, and general office applications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex computer/information systems information into an organized and presentable manner.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following software platforms: AVEVA System Platform (and OMI), AVEVA InTouch, Honeywell Experion & Safety Builder, Rockwell Studio 5000, Emerson PAC Machine Edition, ProWORX 32, Siemens 4-mation, ABB S+ Engineering/Composer.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the technical work in the administration, maintenance, and operation of Automation/SCADA, distributed control, telemetry input, and computer systems for field operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Industrial Automation/SCADA architecture design including control, measurement and safety systems for oil and gas production facilities.
  • Work with field Instrumentation and Electrical Team assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial controls-related equipment.
  • Design and manage control system and SCADA related projects.
  • Keep abreast of new Automation/SCADA related developments and technology in areas such as equipment, software, government regulations, PCN cybersecurity, and communications.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC based control systems including Allen-Bradley (PLC 5, SLC, Control Logix), GE and Modicon.
  • Design, Program, and Troubleshoot HMI/DCS applications to include graphical design, scripting, and database queries on platforms including Wonderware, GE iFIX and Honeywell Experion.
  • Set up and maintain process control networks using Ethernet, OPC, Modbus, ControlNet and other Automation specific protocols.
  • Read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Document Automation/SCADA systems per established procedures.
  • Mentor and help train junior level personnel through training and review of their work plans and system installs.
  • Coordinate and participate in the design, development and administration of standards and documentation relating to automation systems.
  • Enforce adherence to corporate Automation/SCADA standards.
