About The Position

Airgas is looking for a driven, relationship-focused Automation Sales Specialist responsible for evaluating customer applications to determine the optimum product, services, retrofits, upgrades, or new controllers, software, and equipment to fulfill the customer’s requirements. This role involves the preparation of proposals and quotations for customers and assisting Account Managers in selling. The specialist will conduct a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical tests on and install Robotic systems, shape cutting systems, welding systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications or to determine the cause of unit failure. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, requiring the individual to conduct themselves in a safe manner, observe all safety best practices, lead safe work activities by example, and report any unsafe situations immediately. The role also includes making sales calls with Account Managers, Sales Managers, and Segment Managers to sell Preventive Maintenance, retrofits, new equipment, controllers, drive packages, and software. The specialist will also teach and instruct operators on equipment operation, sequencing, and optimization, participate in territory planning, and coordinate attendance with Segment Manager & Area Sales Managers for War Room Meetings. They will provide input on sales and expense budgets and must be able to troubleshoot, evaluate applications and processes, and break down, repair, and assemble industrial automation and components. This includes reading test schedules, work orders, manuals, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedures, connecting units to test equipment, reading dials and displays, comparing results with specifications, recording test data, analyzing test results on defective units, and replacing defective parts or returning units for repair. The role also involves devising test equipment setups, generating information for sales of retrofits and new equipment, preparing invoices, conducting sales demonstrations, and making sales & service calls to customer locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Computer literacy for preparation of sales and service proposals and report writing.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Supplier factory training on equipment, processes, software, controllers, drives, and etc to ensure the customer is sold the right products and services for the applications.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and instruct operators on the proper use of equipment operation, sequencing, and optimization of process.
  • Participate in territory planning for sales and service.
  • Work in conjunction with Sales Managers, Account Managers, Segment Manager, and supplier representatives to achieve sales and service goals.
  • Attend War Room Meetings and coordinate attendance with Segment Manager & Area Sales Managers.
  • Provide input on sales and expense budgets for Segment endeavors.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate applications and processes, break down, repair, assemble industrial automation and components.
  • Read test schedule, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
  • Test functional performance of systems, processes, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions.
  • Order parts and maintain stock of repair parts for sale and customer equipment repair.
  • Connect unit to be tested to test equipment.
  • Read dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics.
  • Compare results with specifications and record test data.
  • Analyze test results on defective units to determine cause of failure.
  • Replace defective wiring and components or record defects on tag attached to unit and return unit to manufacturer for repair.
  • Devise test equipment setup to evaluate performance and operation of nonstandard or customer returned units.
  • Generate information to complete sales of retrofits, new equipment.
  • Prepare invoices for sales and service.
  • Conduct sales demonstrations.
  • Make sales & service calls to customer locations as needed.
