About The Position

Airgas is looking for a driven, relationship-focused Automation Sales Specialist responsible for evaluating customer applications to determine the optimum product, services, retrofits, upgrades, or new controllers, software, and equipment to fulfill the customer’s requirements. This role involves preparing proposals and quotations for customers and assisting Account Managers in selling. The specialist will conduct a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical tests on and install Robotic systems, shape cutting systems, welding systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications or to determine the cause of unit failure. They will make sales calls with Account Managers, Sales Managers, and Segment Managers to sell Preventive Maintenance, retrofits, new equipment, controllers, drive packages, and software to prospective and existing customers. The role also includes preparing proposals, quotations, and estimates for new or upgrades and retrofits to existing customer equipment, and selling used and reconditioned equipment. Additionally, the specialist will teach and instruct operators on the proper use of equipment operation, sequencing, and optimization of process, and participate in territory planning for sales and service, working in conjunction with Sales Managers, Account Managers, Segment Manager, and supplier representatives to achieve sales and service goals. The role requires attending War Room Meetings, coordinating attendance with Segment Manager & Area Sales Managers, and providing input on sales and expense budgets for Segment endeavors. The specialist must be able to troubleshoot, evaluate applications and processes, break down, repair, and assemble industrial automation and components. They will read test schedules, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedures and equipment. The role involves testing the functional performance of systems, processes, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions, ordering parts, and maintaining stock of repair parts. The specialist will connect units to test equipment, read dials or digital displays, compare results with specifications, record test data, and analyze test results on defective units to determine the cause of failure. They will replace defective wiring and components or record defects and return units for repair, and devise test equipment setups for nonstandard or customer returned units. The role also includes generating information to complete sales of retrofits and new equipment, preparing invoices for sales and service, conducting sales demonstrations, and making sales & service calls to customer locations as needed. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, requiring the specialist to conduct themselves in a safe manner, observe all safety best practices, lead safe work activities by example, and report any unsafe situations immediately.

Requirements

  • Experienced in the sale and maintenance of Robotic systems, shape cutting systems, welding systems.
  • Computer literacy for preparation of sales and service proposals and report writing.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school.
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis.
  • Some overnight travel required.
  • Safe driving record and reliable transportation for work travel (auto allowance provided).

Responsibilities

  • Reads test schedule, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
  • Tests functional performance of systems, processes, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions such as temperature change, vibration, pressure, grounding and humidity.
  • Orders parts and maintains stock of repair parts for sale and customer equipment repair.
  • Connects unit to be tested to test equipment.
  • Reads dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, distortion, inductance, and capacitance.
  • Compares results with specifications and records test data.
  • Analyzes test results on defective units to determine cause of failure.
  • Replaces defective wiring and components or records defects on tag attached to unit and returns unit to manufacturer for repair.
  • Devises test equipment setup to evaluate performance and operation of nonstandard or customer returned units.
  • Generates information to complete sales of retrofits, new equipment, prepares invoices for sales and service.
  • Conducts sales demonstrations.
  • Makes sales & service calls to customer locations as needed.
  • Conducts themselves in a safe manner and observes all safety best practices and leads safe work activities by example.
  • Reports any unsafe situation to management immediately and takes action to protect others from hazards.
