Automation Engineer
About The Position
As an Automation Engineer on Valmet’s Engineering Services team, you will support the performance of large-scale papermaking equipment at customer facilities across North America. You will develop machine code for PLC or DCS systems and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software so equipment functions as specified, and test software modifications as much as possible before delivery. You will participate in or lead startup activities at customer sites, including checkout and commissioning, provide technical training to customer operators and maintenance personnel as needed, and make return visits to resolve warranty issues or address customer needs.
Requirements
- A two- or four-year degree in Engineering, Papermaking Technology, programming, or a related field; three to five years of experience in a technical role within the papermaking industry or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of PLC programming.
- Knowledge of Rockwell software.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of papermaking machinery and hydraulic systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop machine code for PLC or DCS systems and HMI software to ensure equipment functions as specified.
- Test software modifications as much as possible before delivery (shop test).
- Participate in or lead startup activities at customer sites.
- Check out electrical, PLC, and HMI portions of equipment.
- Commission equipment to ensure specifications are met.
- Deliver technical training to customer operators and/or maintenance personnel as needed.
- Return to customer sites to resolve warranty issues or address customer needs.
