This job posting is for an Automation Engineer, with the specific level (Automation Engineer II, Sr. Automation Engineer I / II, or Principal Automation Engineer) to be determined by the successful candidate’s education, experience, and specific knowledge. The primary purpose of the role is to use technology to improve and streamline manufacturing processes through automation. Depending on the assignment, the engineer will provide automation support for projects or within a specific area, or provide validation support for automation projects. The incumbent will also integrate into supporting large-scale projects. They are expected to be proficient or an SME in their field, covering areas such as specific control systems, instrumentation, process, utilities, or qualification testing, and are responsible for meeting customer needs in support of business goals. Collaboration with other automation engineers is essential, and for senior and principal levels, mentoring and coaching junior engineers is also expected. Principal Automation Engineers may also directly supervise others.

  • **Education and Experience (minimums vary by level):**
  • **Automation Engineer II:** Master’s Degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 1 year of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation; OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 3 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • **Sr. Automation Engineer I:** Master’s Degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 3 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation; OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 5 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • **Sr. Automation Engineer II:** Master’s Degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 4 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation; OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 6 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • **Principal Automation Engineer:** Master’s Degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 6 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation; OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Related field with 8 years of direct experience in automation engineering and/or validation. Responsibilities

  • Work within a project team, ensuring teamwork, schedule adherence, execution, start-up, commissioning, owner interaction, and qualifications.
  • Provide support in designated area/field, which may include DCS, PLC, SCADA, BAS, Robotics, Validation, Manufacturing, and Utilities Areas.
  • Provide excellent communications (verbal/written) within the area of responsibility.
  • Use and demonstrate problem-solving skills to best support and meet the needs within the area of responsibility.
  • Promote a collaborative and cooperative environment which embraces the ability to work effectively within teams.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GxP), including Compliance, Change Control, Quality Oversight, and Validation.
  • Provide after-hours support when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned/required.
  • Lead small-scale (Sr. Automation Engineer I), medium/small scale (Sr. Automation Engineer II), or large-scale (Principal Automation Engineer) automation projects, including budget, planning, scheduling, logistics, procurement, communication, bid oversight, construction management, routine updates, and qualifications.
  • Support the development of standards and provide expertise to management.
  • Provide SME Leadership in designated area/field (for Sr. Automation Engineer II and Principal Automation Engineer).
  • If assigned as Area lead (Principal Automation Engineer), provide support for process issues, troubleshooting, continuous improvement projects, system administration, and act as a point of contact to Operations personnel.
  • Supervise other Automation engineers or staff (Principal Automation Engineer, if required), maintaining accountability, overseeing employee career path, training plan, performance evaluation, and development opportunities, coaching, counseling, managing and directing personnel, performing resource planning, interacting cross-functionally with peer managers, resolving conflict, and communicating higher-level decisions/vision.
