Job Summary To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Automation engineer located in Austin, TX. Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager the Automation engineer will be responsible for specifying, designing and maintaining automation equipment, tooling and applications as required to meet specifications.

Requirements

  • minimum 3 years of working experience
  • 4 year engineering/STEM degree OR 2 year technical degree plus minimum 5 years relevant experience (preferred engineering disciplines are Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Mechatronics)
  • Experience with CAD design, PLC troubleshooting, process optimization, 5S, Kaizens, Root Cause Analysis
  • Able to navigate applicable medical devices regulations (e.g., 21 CFR 820 and/or ISO 13485) with cross-functional guidance as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • 50% projects are assigned by lead engineers or process engineering manager, 50% are self-identified
  • Project scope will have validation activities / cross-functional coordination
  • Most projects will be already well defined with KPIs in place; optional but not expected to do data mining but rather performs basic data evaluation for KPIs that are already available
  • Project review required to show effectiveness of project implementation through data driven KPIs; expected to execute follow-up projects as designed if original project did not provide the savings initially proposed OR provide gap analysis for miss
  • Focus is to learn technical details of assigned factory, proper communication and collaboration, medical processes for documentation AND validation, medium sized project management and resource management coordination of conflicting activities

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and modify existing and new moderately-complex automation equipment, tooling and applications to automate manufacturing processes.
  • Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes.
  • Understand the machine operating standards, on-sequence of wear and tear parts and product defects
  • Ensure the uptime of machines through regular preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance
  • Should be willing to learn & enhance the skill in all type of Automation equipment.
  • Should prepare why-why evaluation & drive for permanent corrective actions.
  • Should be able to give feedback to improve the design of process and equipment.
  • Directs daily department activities to maximize equipment utilization and support production needs
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other functional groups such as engineering and operations to ensure the efficient operation of the departmental function.
  • Collaborates and offers input to planning, building, and maintaining the Automation framework and associated processes for new products.
  • Identifies and drives change to ensure automation effectiveness of existing processes.
  • Supports documentation completion for out of calibration and risk assessment items as assigned
  • Evaluates and executes action items from CAPA activities as assigned by CAPA team.
  • Provides SME input to Rapid Response/NCMR/CAR/CAPA meetings as assigned by engineering manager
