Automation Engineer
About The Position
The Automation Engineer supports innovation by improving the performance, reliability, and efficiency of manufacturing equipment and automated systems. The role optimizes production processes, minimizes equipment downtime, and supports continuous improvement initiatives that improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), labor efficiency, and quality. The Automation Engineer works collaboratively across Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to enhance customer satisfaction and company profitability. This is an on-site role at the Clinton Township, Michigan facility, five days per week.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in automation, industrial maintenance, or manufacturing.
- Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
- Basic knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair automated manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on automation equipment.
- Assist with programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robots.
- Support new equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements.
- Work with Engineering to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Calibrate sensors, vision systems, and automated equipment as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Follow safety procedures and support a safe work environment.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects that increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
