Automation Engineer Level IV

American IT SystemsMenlo Park, CA
Onsite

About The Position

This role involves testing and automating end-to-end network test cases, including control-plane, data-plane, performance, and stress/soak tests, using an in-house test framework. The engineer will build and run traffic-generation tests with Ixia/Keysight in lab environments, convert qualification test plans into automated, repeatable suites, and onboard them as CI/CD conveyor nodes that gate releases. Responsibilities also include triaging test failures, filing and tracking issues, and maintaining/improving existing automation, test configurations, and lab tooling. Collaboration with Netcastle, Routing, and FBOSS XFN partners is expected to expand test coverage.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in software/network test automation or QA engineering.
  • Strong Python (test frameworks, scripting, debugging).
  • Hands-on networking fundamentals: BGP, routing/forwarding, L2/L3, data-plane vs. control-plane concepts.
  • Experience with traffic generators (Ixia, Keysight, or equivalent).
  • CI/CD pipeline experience and comfort working in a Linux environment with source control.
  • 5-8+ years in software/network test automation or QA engineering.
  • Bachelors of Science or network engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Open/R, BGP, ECMP/UCMP, or large-scale DC fabric topologies.
  • Experience qualifying network hardware/optics or vendor NOS (e.g., Arista EOS).
  • Familiarity with lab automation, device provisioning, or scale/performance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Test and automate end-to-end network test cases (control-plane, data-plane, performance, stress/soak) using the inhouse test framework.
  • Build and run traffic-generation tests with Ixia/Keysight in lab environments.
  • Convert qualification test plans into automated, repeatable suites and onboard them as CI/CD conveyor nodes (DC/BB push pipelines) that gate releases.
  • Triage test failures for flakiness vs. legitimate regressions; file and track issues to the appropriate on call.
  • Maintain and improve existing automation, test configs, and lab tooling.
  • Collaborate with Netcastle (lab infra), Routing, and FBOSS XFN partners to unblock coverage.
