About The Position

This is a hands-on Automation Engineer role based in the Twin Cities area, requiring the ability to work on the production floor, wire into a PLC, and ensure data flows correctly to a cloud dashboard. The position serves as a bridge between physical EV systems and data reporting tools, suitable for individuals who enjoy both manufacturing "grit" and systems architecture "logic".

Requirements

Ability to commute to Chisago City, MN facility daily.
100% on-site role, no remote work offered.
Proven experience with industrial platforms and HMI design.
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or SQL for data handling.
Deep understanding of industrial networking, including moving data through a physical firewall into a cloud endpoint (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, MQTT).
Comfortable moving between a laptop and a control panel, and working in a shop floor environment.
Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Lead the debugging and validation of systems during prototype builds, being physically present at the machines.
Develop and program PLC software (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff) for integrated EV systems.
Partner with the Electrical Engineering team to ensure code aligns with physical wiring, I/O layouts, and control architectures.
Implement protocols (MQTT, OPC-UA) to move data from the machine to the cloud environment.
Maintain the cloud-based application that tracks real-time machine performance and historical data.
Manage how machine data is stored for local teams and customers.
Provide diagnostics for systems deployed in the field using custom-built data architecture.
Use real-world data from the shop floor to standardize programming and improve future products.
