Automation Analyst

Ally LogisticsKentwood, MI
Onsite

About The Position

This role is for an analyst who has spent the last year or two building things they couldn't have built alone before, using AI coding tools. The company has invested in automated process discovery tooling and has a portfolio of RPA automations. The analyst will use discovery software to understand how work flows, sit with users to ask clarifying questions, and then build the automation themselves. The job spans both discovery and building, focusing on understanding the 'why' behind processes and automating them.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to build automations, tools, scripts, or workflows that are currently in use.
  • Serious hands-on AI tooling experience with tools like Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex for writing and debugging code.
  • Ability to decompose problems for AI models, assess output reliability, and identify when output is incorrect.
  • Strong analytical skills, including running discovery sessions, eliciting requirements, and defining problems with quantifiable metrics.
  • Technical fluency in REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, SQL, and scripting in Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience automating personal work through scripts, macros, or workflows.
  • Genuine curiosity about how work gets done.
  • Willingness to maintain and improve existing work.
  • Systems thinking regarding people, including understanding user concerns and gaining buy-in for changes.
  • Understanding the difference between processes that should be automated, eliminated, or renegotiated.

Nice To Haves

  • Business process modeling using BPMN or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with workflow automation or iPaaS platforms.
  • RPA experience, particularly inheriting or auditing existing bot portfolios.
  • n8n experience.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs for structured extraction, document processing, tool-using agents, or evaluation harnesses.
  • Familiarity with task or process mining tools and translating their output into action.
  • Formal continuous improvement background (Lean, Six Sigma, value stream mapping).
  • Browser and UI automation experience with tools like Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium.
  • Data work beyond SQL, including dbt, warehouse modeling, or BI tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and observe the humans doing the work, run discovery sessions, workshops, and side-by-side walkthroughs to surface exceptions, workarounds, and edge cases.
  • Build automations including workflow orchestration, RPA, scripts, integrations, and AI-assisted steps, delivering working automation rather than just specifications.
  • Turn process discovery output into a prioritized, quantified backlog, detailing current costs, fix costs, and expected returns.
  • Help own the existing RPA portfolio by understanding, fixing, documenting, and retiring automations.
  • Write requirements such as user stories, acceptance criteria, exception paths, and failure modes.
  • Own reliability for shipped automations, including monitoring, error handling, and runbooks.
  • Manage change by bringing affected teams along, training them, and ensuring new processes are adopted.
  • Measure shipped automations against promised outcomes and report honestly.
