About The Position

This position involves examining blueprints or plans for the finished product, setting up and making adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of mechanisms, as well as ensuring machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product. The operator will create programs independently for production with minimal guidance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1 year of experience in programming and working in a manufacturing environment
  • Training in general safety, awareness and quality system awareness.
  • Machine setup and maintenance
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, models, and forming comprehension.

Responsibilities

  • Examine blueprints or plans for the finished product.
  • Set up and make adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of mechanisms.
  • Ensure machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product.
  • Create programs independently for production with minimal guidance.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences.
  • Position, adjust, and secure stock material or workpieces against stops or automatic feeding mechanisms.
  • Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scales, rules, or templates.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation.
  • Change worn machine accessories, such as cutting tools or brushes, using hand tools.
  • Notify supervisors when service is required.
  • Extract or lift jammed pieces from machines, using fingers, wire hooks, or lift bars.
  • Record operational data, such as pressure readings, lengths of strokes, feed rates, or speeds.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces, using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, or power tools.
  • Assist Level 1 operators with 1st piece check, programming, loading material, work flow, and quality.
