About The Position

The AutoCAD Designer/Drafter is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining accurate residential construction documents and architectural drawings using AutoCAD. This role supports the creation and modification of new home plans, construction details, master plan sets, and product information, while ensuring the accuracy and consistency of construction documents in a high-volume environment. The CAD Designer collaborates with internal departments, consultants, and field personnel to support plan development, address design-related revisions, produce field print sets, and provide CAD-related technical assistance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification from a two-year college or technical school in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting, Construction Management, or a related field required.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction drawings, building practices, construction methods, materials, and industry terminology.
  • Experience producing residential construction documents, permit-ready plan sets, and construction-ready drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD & Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and support field personnel with CAD- and construction-related questions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; AutoCAD certification preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and Smartsheet

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and revise residential master plan sets, floor plans, elevations, options, and product documentation.
  • Create and produce AutoCAD construction drawings from architectural renderings, conceptual designs, and preliminary sketches.
  • Prepare job start plans and permit-ready construction documents, including architectural, site plan, truss, and related engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate construction documents with structural, civil, truss, and other consultants to ensure accurate, complete, permit-ready, and construction-ready plan sets.
  • Generate address-specific plans based on community requirements, municipal regulations, site conditions, and buyer-requested customizations.
  • Review site plans and site-specific conditions to support product selection, site cost evaluations, and design solutions.
  • Develop and maintain construction details to ensure consistency and accuracy across all plan sets.
  • Assist in the creation of new floor plans, elevations, options, conceptual designs, renderings, zoning packages, and other product development initiatives.
  • Update and coordinate plan revisions across all affected drawings and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing &Estimating, Land Development, Construction, Sales, and Marketing teams to support operational and product needs.
  • Attend prototype plan reviews, implement required updates, and support the continuous improvement of product offerings.
  • Respond to questions from field personnel and provide technical CAD-related support and solutions.
  • Distribute and communicate plan revisions, product updates, and construction information to internal stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
