About The Position

The primary job of the Auto Program Assistant is to assist the three auto instructors with daily skill demonstration, instruction, and assessment - in general support of the auto program's and students. This role involves supporting students in both classroom and hands-on learning experiences related to the auto industry, providing one-on-one or small group assistance, and preparing materials and equipment for class activities. The assistant will also help maintain a safe and supportive environment, assist with administrative tasks, and supervise students during clinical practice and fieldwork.

Requirements

  • Certification required (ASE or Michigan Automotive Technician Certification)
  • Minimum two years of experience in the Auto Industry
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work autonomously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Basic familiarity with industry tools and equipment
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to stay calm in a stressful situation
  • Familiarity with auto shop tools/machines, settings, and set-up
  • Ability to troubleshoot auto issues based on visual inspection
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tools/machines
  • Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with high school students is preferred
  • Desire to work with both large and small groups of students as a mentor and guide

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead instructor with lesson plan implementation and classroom activities.
  • Support students in classroom and hands-on learning experiences related to the auto industry.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students needing extra help with academic and technical skills.
  • Help prepare materials and equipment for daily class activities and practical demonstrations.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and supportive classroom and lab environment.
  • Aid in the supervision of students during clinical practice and fieldwork.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including record-keeping and classroom management.
