About The Position

An inclusive and supportive school in Brentwood is seeking Autism Support Assistants to join its team. The role is suited to upcoming or recent graduates interested in gaining school-based experience before pursuing further study or a career in education. The assistant will support pupils with autism, ASC, ADHD, and additional learning needs in a nurturing school environment, working both one-to-one and in small groups within an Additional Resource Provision. The role involves collaborating with the SENDCo, teachers, and trained professionals to help pupils access learning and develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The position offers experience relevant to applications for Masters programmes or Educational Psychology training. The posting describes this as a long-term and permanent role.

Requirements

• A degree in Psychology or a related subject from a UK university.
• Previous child-centred or SEN experience.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
• Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience.
• Aspirations towards Educational Psychology, therapy, teaching, or further study.

Responsibilities

• Support children with ASC, autism, ADHD, and additional needs.
• Work with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
• Support the SENDCo and external SEN professionals.
• Help create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment.
• Encourage pupils’ confidence, communication, and independence.
• Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development and help them access learning.
