About The Position

Provides intensive individualized instructional services directed toward the development and/or enhancement of skills and increased independence in social skills, social communication, and learning behaviors under the direction of the Program Specialist for Autism Supports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • a minimum of one year experience providing autism support services
  • meets highly qualified standards as defined by NCLB Act of 2001
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write and/or type routine reports and correspondences.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of district personnel or organizations.
  • Proficient in English and relative understanding of sign language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally through emails and through other means (i.e. picture exchange system).
  • Ability to develop professional and accurate observational documentation.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of data.
  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems.
  • Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental, and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing – using proficient grammar and spelling rules.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and district employees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.
  • Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance to scheduled deadlines.
  • The positions requires meeting deadlines and interacting with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Some extended hours and multiple demands are required of the employee – with prior notice and approval by the supervisor, if hours extend beyond the work day.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as boxes of materials.
  • The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision.
  • Some driving required.
  • The employee is frequently required to interact with the public or other staff.
  • The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being of students.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Collects data related to interventions applied and student responses.
  • Maintains documentation of services.
  • Prepares materials necessary and relevant for educational services.
  • Travels to schools around the district to provide autism supports and services under the direction of the Program Specialist.
  • Attends in-service training and conferences as requested.
  • Provides services as delineated in each student’s IEP.
  • Follows training, demonstrates consistent and satisfactory use of Applied Behavior Analysis teaching strategies and methodology including reinforcement, graduated prompts, discrete trial instruction, peer mediated intervention, and positive learning approaches.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required by Family Education Records Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Attends monthly whole group and small group meetings.
  • Assists with training newly hired Autism Services Aides.
  • Manages problem behaviors appropriately to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Maintains appropriate relationships with other Autism Services personnel as well as with school personnel and child’s parents/guardians.
  • Participates in the assessment and programming for students.
  • Reviews educational programs as appropriate and reports findings to the Program Specialist.
  • Plans for strategies to promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
  • Maintains documentation of credentials and on-going hours of training in autism and other developmental delays.
  • Coaches and supports teachers, staff, and administrators in dealing with behavior issues.
  • Provides training and support to general education teachers with mainstreamed students.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Programs.
