About The Position

The Authorization Specialist obtains insurance verification for patient admissions and recertifications and works with Billing and Patient Care Staff to resolve related issues. The role verifies coverage and benefits, researches secondary payers, records insurance information, prepares patient copayment estimates, and tracks visit and recertification authorizations. It also submits CHAPS reporting for both Home Health and Hospice.

Responsibilities

• Contact insurance companies and case managers to verify patient insurance coverage and obtain information about the extent of benefits.
• Use UGS/DDE and EDS computer programs to verify Medicare and Medicaid eligibility and research possible secondary payers.
• Prepare insurance verification forms with insurance company, policyholder, and policy number information.
• Accurately enter insurance information into the Homecare Homebase (HCHB) system.
• Prepare patient copayment estimates for clinicians to deliver to patients and notify clinicians of preauthorized visits.
• Enter visit authorizations into HCHB and maintain an audit system for additional visit authorization needs.
• Report unauthorized visits to a supervisor when applicable.
• Maintain an audit system for tracking True Blue authorizations for recertification.
• Maintain an audit system for tracking hospice recertifications.
• Submit CHAPS reporting for Home Health and Hospice.
