About The Position

The Authorization Specialist obtains insurance verification for patient admissions and recertifications and works with Billing and Patient Care Staff to resolve issues. The role verifies patient coverage and benefits, records insurance details in Homecare Homebase (HCHB), prepares patient copayment estimates for clinicians, and manages visit and recertification authorization tracking for Home Health and Hospice.

Responsibilities

• Contact insurance companies and case managers to verify patient insurance coverage and obtain information about the extent of benefits.
• Use UGS/DDE and EDS computer programs to verify Medicare and Medicaid eligibility and research possible secondary payers.
• Prepare insurance verification forms with information such as the insurance company, policyholder, and policy number.
• Accurately enter insurance information into Homecare Homebase (HCHB).
• Prepare patient copayment estimates for clinicians to deliver to patients and notify clinicians of preauthorized visits.
• Enter visit authorizations into HCHB and maintain an audit system for additional visit authorization needs.
• Report unauthorized visits to a supervisor when applicable.
• Maintain an audit system to track True Blue authorizations for recertification.
• Maintain an audit system to track hospice recertifications.
• Submit CHAPS reporting for both Home Health and Hospice.
