About The Position

Haxtun Health is seeking an engaging, detail-oriented professional who enjoys helping patients navigate referrals, insurance authorizations, and financial assistance, while serving as a supportive and effective liaison between patients, providers, and payers. The Authorization & Referral Specialist coordinates patient referrals, obtains insurance prior authorizations for procedures and medications, and assists patients with accessing financial assistance programs. This role serves as a liaison between patients, providers, insurance companies, pharmacies, and community partners to support timely access to care and reduce financial barriers. Responsibilities include processing and tracking referrals, submitting and following up on authorization requests, maintaining accurate documentation in the EHR, and communicating updates to patients and clinical staff. The specialist also helps patients navigate insurance benefits and financial resources while ensuring compliance with payer requirements, HIPAA, and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and insurance portals
  • Ability to learn health insurance processes, including prior authorization and coverage requirements
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Compassionate, patient centered approach with sensitivity to financial and social stressors

Nice To Haves

  • Postsecondary education in healthcare administration, social services, or a related field, preferred
  • Prior authorizations, billing, or patient access experience, preferred
  • Experience with Medicaid and other public assistance programs, strongly preferred
