About The Position

This is a temporary, non-exempt position for an Auditorium Technician within Colorado Springs School District 11. The technician will be responsible for operating and assisting with the setup of various stage systems including lighting, sound, audio, video, projection, curtains, and rigging. The role also involves assisting renters with props, setting up furniture, and supporting the placement of musical equipment. A key aspect of the job is ensuring a safe environment and assisting with cleanup efforts. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ETC Eos based stage lighting consoles, theatrical stage lighting instruments (automated moving and LED color mixing lights), safe methods of attaching stage lighting, safe and proper methods of setting up and running stage lighting electrical cables, and basic knowledge of DMX lighting control systems.
  • Knowledge of Allen & Heath GLD digital audio mixing consoles, SFX or Cue Lab playback software, safe and practical methods of running audio cables, and the correct use of stage microphones.
  • Knowledge of video projectors, laptops, DVD players, PowerPoint, Windows Media Player, VGA and HDMI video systems.
  • Knowledge of stage drapery operations, safe operation of the stage rigging system using proper warning calls and awareness.
  • Knowledge of proper backstage procedures for rehearsals and show operations for the movement of assigned props.
  • Ability to see and report a safety hazard.
  • Basic knowledge of fire code as it relates to stages and/or 'places of public assembly'.
  • Ability to work well as a part of a team environment.
  • Experience working with external clients from a service-oriented point of view.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing stressful work situations.
  • Experience working in a technical theatre environment and/or courses taken, or degrees completed from a higher educational institution.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and assists in the setup of District 11 stage lighting systems, including hanging instruments, programming lighting control boards, framing color gel, and taping cords.
  • Operates and assists in the setup of District 11 sound and audio systems, including speakers, microphones, audio cables, mixing consoles, and media playback.
  • Operates District 11 video and projection systems, including projectors, laptops, DVD players, and integrating video systems with sound systems.
  • Operates District 11 curtains and stage rigging systems, including opening/closing curtains and raising/lowering curtains, lights, and scenery.
  • Assists with overhead rigging of scenery and production items under the supervision of the event auditorium manager.
  • Assists renters with the placement of stage props before, during, and after rehearsals and performances, including moving scenery from vehicles to the facility and stage areas.
  • Assists the event auditorium manager with the setup and placement of tables and chairs on and off stage.
  • Assists with the setup and placement of orchestra acoustic shells, chorale risers, platform risers, music stands, and musical instruments.
  • Uses and operates power tools such as drills and saws for production scenery implementation.
  • Assists with ensuring a safe environment for workers, performers, and the general public.
  • Reports any and all safety concerns to the event auditorium manager.
  • Assists with cleanup efforts in the stage area, including sweeping and mopping the stage floor.
