About The Position

The Audiologist is responsible for diagnostic assessment of hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation options. Using clinical judgment, they select and implement the most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs. This role determines if a patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices. The Audiologist provides care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA and Esteem implants. They obtain telemetry measures in the operating room for cochlear implant procedures and perform and interpret electrophysiologic assessments including VEMP, EcochG, and ABR. This position works collaboratively with Otolaryngology nursing staff to provide excellent patient care and reviews abnormal test results with the referring physician. All pertinent information is documented in aChart (audiology) and the TIMS office-based system (hearing aid center).

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Audiology
  • Licensure in Audiology by state of Massachusetts
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech/Language Hearing Association (ASHA) required
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Excellent patient centric skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience in a medical - otologic setting.
  • 4th year clinical doctorate placement accepted as one year of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic assessment of hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation options.
  • Exercises clinical judgment in selecting and implementing the most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs.
  • Greets patients, identifies oneself as an audiologist, and explains hearing and balance testing.
  • Reviews results and recommendations with the patient regarding diagnostic tests and rehabilitative options.
  • Determines if the patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices.
  • Selects appropriate hearing aid device for the patient based on audiologic test results.
  • Provides quality ear mold impressions for hearing aids, swim plugs, and custom noise protection.
  • Provides appropriate programming of the selected amplification device.
  • Provides care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA, and Esteem implants.
  • Performs and interprets electrophysiologic assessment including VEMP, EcochG, and ABR.
  • Obtains telemetry measures in the operating room for cochlear implant procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with Otolaryngology nursing staff to provide excellent patient care.
  • Reviews abnormal test results with the referring physician.
  • Provides written educational material and reviews with patient/family.
  • Provides occasional cross coverage at all audiology sites, including Burlington, Peabody, and Lexington.
  • Provides the patient with written and verbal instructions regarding battery use, care, and maintenance of the hearing aid.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs devices if possible.
  • Determines if a hearing aid needs to be returned to the manufacturer for repair.
  • Addresses any issues or concerns the patient or family member may have regarding their hearing aids.
  • Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement, and Goals into daily activities.
  • Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
