About The Position

The audiologist works within the Audiology Service to provide hospital based audiological services for children from ages 0 to 18 years. The audiologist is primarily responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis and management of hearing difficulties in children.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Audiology (Essential)
  • Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (Essential)
  • Authorizer with the Assistive Devices Program (Essential)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in paediatric audiology (Essential)
  • Demonstrated strength in teamwork and in communication with families (Essential)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, as required (Essential)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Performs a complete audiological evaluation by selecting from a battery of behavioral and objective procedures in order to make a differential diagnosis of hearing impairment.
  • Interprets audiometric results with other diagnostic data, such as educational, medical and social information and makes appropriate referrals to other health care providers or agencies.
  • Develops, implements and/or participates in a care plan for children with hearing disorders in consultation with appropriate team members (internal and external).
  • Prescribes hearing devices, which include hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems and other assistive listening devices.
  • Ensures the appropriate fitting, verification and validation of hearing devices using current technology and functional measures in consultation with therapists/teachers.
  • Documents results of client intervention as required by CHEO, College, or external standards.
  • Conducts educational programs for hospital staff, medical students/residents, visiting professionals and the public.
  • May supervise and teach graduate students in audiology as well as CDAs and community screeners
  • Participates in hospital or clinic committees/activities such as quality management, research, and education as required.
  • Follows hospital and clinical procedures, which may include activities such as workload measurement data collection, patient billing, monitoring of equipment, etc.
  • Maintains a standard of professional education by attending conferences, professional meetings, manufacturer’s seminars, etc.
