About The Position

Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate. We are currently seeking a Full-Time AV Support Technician responsible for working the setup, installation, configuration, and maintenance of complex AV systems.

Requirements

  • Associate in IT (or related field) or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in IT/AV support or helpdesk roles
  • Strong understanding of AV systems, installation practices, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Proficiency in multimedia software and digital audio/visual tools
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment schematics
  • Basic understanding of AV-over-IP networking protocols.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks under pressure with attention to detail
  • Comfortable lifting, mounting, and handling AV equipment and infrastructure
  • Proven experience in a technical AV role (2+ years preferred)
  • Commitment to adhering to safety and accessibility compliance
  • Ability to learn and operate heavy machinery
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Certification/obtain within 6 months of hire date
  • Either currently possess or obtain within first year of hire: AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
  • Either currently possess or obtain within first year of hire: CompTIA Security+
  • Either currently possess or obtain within first year of hire: OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Card
  • Any applicable heavy machinery qualifications/certifications required

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and test a variety of professional audio-visual systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex AV issues during setup and live events
  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade AV equipment, including wiring, mounting, and integration
  • Lead and mentor Level I Technicians, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Coordinate scheduling and resource allocation for AV setups and installations
  • Operate and support AV systems during events, ensuring high-quality audio and video delivery
  • Collaborate with event planners and clients to understand and execute AV requirements
  • Serve as liaison with vendors for service, support, and warranty needs
  • Utilize multimedia software and digital tools for content integration and system configuration
  • Ensure all installations meet safety, quality, and accessibility (ADA) standards
  • Document configurations, maintenance, and repair activities
  • Maintain and repair exhibits with AV components
  • Maintain and repair simulator/VR experience
  • Follow all safety protocols, including operation of heavy machinery
