About The Position

The GBH Archives is offering a part-time paid internship for a student in an accredited undergrad or master’s program. The intern will work with members of the GBH Archives team, focused on preservation of archival CDs for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting. GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas.

Requirements

  • Experience or interest working with optical media
  • Working knowledge of the basic archival principles for arrangement, description, preservation, and access
  • Experience with asset management systems, database systems, or cataloging
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Test and update workflows for preserving CDs in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting
  • Create automatically generated transcripts and captions from public media programs
  • Perform item-level cataloging of audio material in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting
  • Become acquainted with the PBCore metadata schema
  • Meet and receive mentorship from GBH Archives staff
  • Write a capstone blog post with reflections on the preservation of archival audio
