About The Position

Apple’s Instrumentation Systems Engineering Group develops and deploys calibration and test equipment for Apple manufacturing lines. The engineer works closely with validation and audio engineering groups during the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase to support current and future products. The role involves brainstorming, designing, simulating, and developing instrumentation systems to calibrate and test Apple products and technologies. Work ranges from lab-scale systems requiring a deep understanding of the technology and product to automated, mass-production measurement tools. The engineer balances accuracy, precision, cost, lead time, and throughput, and collaborates with engineers across mechanical system design, core technology, product design, and operations to develop measurement systems.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, or a similar field.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience.
  • Deep familiarity with room acoustics and/or transducer design.
  • Experience with acoustic and multiphysics simulation tools such as Comsol or Ansys.
  • Experience with CAD tools, preferably NX/UG.
  • Programming experience in one or more of C, C++, Python, or Matlab.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • High-volume consumer electronics manufacturing experience.
  • Experience designing scalable instrumentation and hardware/software automation.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs).
  • Experience with acoustic materials specification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy calibration and test equipment for Apple manufacturing lines.
  • Collaborate with validation and audio engineering groups during the NPI phase.
  • Brainstorm, design, simulate, and develop instrumentation systems used to calibrate and test products and technologies.
  • Design systems ranging from lab-scale equipment to automated mass-production measurement tools.
  • Balance accuracy, precision, cost, lead time, and throughput when developing measurement tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers in mechanical system design, core technology, product design, and operations.
