About The Position

This position is for the full academic year. THIS POSITION IS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN ONLY. FRESHMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT POSITIONS. Expected hours of work per week: 10-15 average - up to 20 during performance weeks, 5 or fewer between shows and at the end of the semester. Some evening and Saturday hours required. Work Location & Hours : Sanderson 208 and other locations as agreed upon, typically between 9-5; some evenings and Saturdays in and around Sanderson Auditorium during performance weeks Qualifications for Position: Friendly and service-oriented Flexible with scheduling: Willing to sell tickets in Carter during lunch break in the week before production opening; some evenings/Saturdays during performance weeks Comfortable and cool-headed in high-pressure situations Able to quickly learn and use new software and technical processes Collaborates and communicates well with others Positive attitude and flexibility in the workplace Organized and detail-oriented Creative problem-solver, sometimes under pressure Variable hours, averaging of 10-15 hours/week; more hours during performance weeks, fewer hours between productions and at the end of the semester. Beneficial: Customer service experience Experience with spreadsheets Interest in theatre, dance, or music operations; or in other kinds of event management NOTE: If the assistant is involved in a production backstage or onstage, performance responsibilities will be suspended; however, work hours may not be able to be made up through other activities. Expected Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the House Manager/Box Office coordinator with ticket sales and front-of-house planning and logistics Run reports and data analyses Answer customer inquiries via email and telephone Update the box office voicemail; check messages and return calls Serve at most performances through selling tickets, ushering, selling concessions, or house managing. Time commitment might be 1 hour (box office, ushering), 2 1/2 hours (concessions), or 3 1/2 hours (house managing). Prepare the house for performance and attend to audience comfort during performance; reset the house and ticket sales areas after the show Assist with production marketing and promotion as needed Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) to be developed Career and self-development include volunteering to participate in further education, training, or other events to support one's career.
