The Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry is seeking an Attorney to join our executive/legal team. This position is responsible for preparing documents for board meetings, agency programs, and administrative adjudicatory proceedings, while investigating complaints involving potential legal and regulatory violations to help ensure compliance with laws and agency regulations. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare documents for board meetings, programs, and administrative adjudicatory processes, including those related to litigation, contracts, memoranda of understanding, cooperative agreements, legal opinions and memoranda, enforcement orders, proposed legislation, rules and regulations, civil or criminal enforcement referral packages for the attorney general, district attorney, state or federal agencies, or other law enforcement officials, along with other relevant documents concerning the agency's operations.
  • Investigate complaints on potential legal or regulatory violations applicable to the agency and other matters under administrative, civil, or criminal review.
  • Assist in determining if a complaint violates laws, rules, and regulations, and if sufficient evidence supports administrative charges or legal action.
  • Provide recommendations on enforcement proceedings and prepare for adjudicatory hearings before departmental boards.
  • Draft rules and regulations through the promulgation process under the Administrative Procedure Act.
  • Monitor and draft proposed legislation.
  • Conduct legal research on statutes, rules and regulations, court decisions, and other relevant department materials.
  • Prepare memos for agency officials.
  • Assist with public records requests as needed and ensure compliance with laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
