About The Position

Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO) is seeking a dedicated and professional Staff or Senior Attorney for its Chillicothe, Ohio office. This role is crucial in fulfilling LASCO's mission to provide civil legal aid and advocacy to overcome injustice, reduce poverty, and increase opportunity for low-income Ohioans. The attorney will provide comprehensive legal services for civil issues, balancing systemic advocacy with direct client representation. The position is part of a collaborative community of attorneys focused on impact work within their respective communities.   • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar of the State of Ohio (or expected admission within 12 months from date of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Handle all functions related to legal advocacy, including intake and representation of clients before local, state, appellate, and federal courts, and relevant agencies.
  • Maintain a caseload that includes both direct service and impact work.
  • Participate in substantive teams focused on in-depth legal area learning and addressing systemic issues.
  • Participate in outreach activities, clinics, and other community events.
  • Collaborate with other legal services attorneys on statewide advocacy.
  • Promote community relations and build relationships by engaging with the public and partner service providers.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including CLE-approved trainings on substantive poverty law and advocacy skills.
