About The Position

This position provides in-house legal assistance to general legal services as requested by the Assistant General Counsel and the Vice President/General Counsel. The role involves negotiating, drafting, and performing legal review or preparation of contracts and other miscellaneous legal documents. The attorney will also perform varied legal research and attend meetings, seminars, and functions as requested. The specific job grade level (Associate Attorney, Attorney, Staff Attorney, or Senior Attorney) will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, and Tri-State's business needs.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and apply legal concepts and principles.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and prepare contract documents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in Colorado within one year from date of employment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the negotiating, drafting, and performing legal review or preparation of contracts and other miscellaneous legal documents.
  • Assist with providing legal assistance to the various functional areas of Tri-State in matters pertaining to the Association's general business and utility activities.
  • Perform varied legal research and also attend meetings, seminars and functions as requested.
  • Adhere to company policies, programs and procedures as well as Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Corporation (NERC), Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) standards and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and regulations.
  • Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and equipment. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, coworkers, and the Safety functional area and correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues. Must understand and comply with the Clearance Procedure as applicable.
