About The Position

Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO) is seeking a dedicated Staff or Senior Attorney for its Chillicothe, Ohio office. This role involves providing comprehensive legal services for civil issues, aligning with LASCO's mission to overcome injustice, reduce poverty, and increase opportunity. The attorney will balance systemic advocacy with direct client representation, contributing to impact work within a collaborative community of legal professionals.   • English language proficiency.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Bar of the State of Ohio (or expected to obtain admission within 12 months from date of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Providing legal counsel and advice.
  • Direct representation in areas of housing, public benefits, tax, domestic, consumer, education, employment, and re-entry.
  • Collaborating with partner organizations on special projects and grants.
  • Handling all functions related to legal advocacy, from intake to representation in local, state, appellate, and federal courts, and relevant agencies.
  • Maintaining a caseload that includes both direct service and impact work.
  • Participating in substantive teams focused on in-depth legal area learning and addressing systemic issues.
  • Participating in outreach activities, clinics, and community events.
  • Collaborating with other legal services attorneys on statewide advocacy.
  • Promoting community relations and building community relationships by engaging with the public and partner service providers.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development, including CLE-approved trainings.
