About The Position

Jack Daniel’s Properties, Inc. (“JDPI”) handles all the intellectual property protection work for Jack Daniel’s and the spirits brands of Brown-Forman Corporation, JDPI's parent company. Brown-Forman, the largest American-owned company in the spirits business, produces and markets many well-known and some of the best-loved spirits in the world. This Attorney will work at the direction of the Senior Attorney - Trademarks with a primary focus on enforcement of our IP rights while also assisting on trademark clearance, prosecution, and related IP matters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in at least one state and in good standing.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in trademark enforcement, clearance, prosecution, and licensing (major law firm and/or in-house position preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, self-starting, hard-working, and collaborative on a team.
  • Ability to take initiative, think independently and strategically, and exhibit sound legal and business judgment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, including with non-lawyers.
  • Proven capacity to negotiate smartly and manage litigation and projects efficiently, including cost management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to navigate and interact fluently online and in social media.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, sometimes internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of alcoholic beverages or other consumer products, especially in non-U.S. markets.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the enforcement of the Company's IP rights, focusing on global trademark opposition matters, online/offline enforcement, and domain name enforcement.
  • Collaborates and communicates directly with outside counsel in over 150 countries on IP management and enforcement matters.
  • Manages day-to-day needs of IP cases and may manage applicable legal support staff.
  • Supports proactive trademark protection through conducting availability searches, preparing risk analysis reports, and assisting on prosecution and licensing matters.
  • Partners with internal personnel worldwide to obtain necessary information and follow-up on all IP-related legal tasks affecting the Company's valuable brands.
